HOW TO: Get Facebook Frictionless Sharing on your blog

Update 5/2-12: I have translated this post to English due to increasing interest from international readers.

Do you want Facebook’s Frictionless Sharing on your WordPress blog? But not much of a coder yourself? Then I’ve got the cure: I’ve coded a simple script that does all the neat tricks for you. Download it here!

One of the most exciting innovations with Facebook Timeline is undoubtedly the function that Mark Zuckerberg describes as “Frictionless Sharing”. You probably know it from Open Graph apps like Spotify or Washington Post Social Reader, that automatically share actions and object on your Timeline when you listen to music or read articles.

The function is now available to all developers, but it still requires quite a lot of coding knowledge to implement.

That’s why I’ve built this simple script, that does most of the work for you. Just follow the instructions below, and you’re blog is ready for Frictionless Sharing!

  1. Follow only steps 1, 3 and 6 in Facebook’s Open Graph Tutorial. Submit read and article as your action and object.
  2. Download facebook-frictionless.zip and unzip it.
  3. Edit the file config.php in a text editor and follow all instructions in the file header.

Done!

If you’ve follow all instructions correctly, your users will now se an “Add to Timeline”-button in their sidebar. By clicking it and approving the permissions, they are now able to tell automatically in their Timeline and Ticker everytime they read one of your articles. Just like you know it from the Washington Post Social Reader.

Do you appreciate my script? Show me by liking this post! :-)
